True Patriotism
This letter by John Newton describes what true Patriotism really is. In our day radical extremists are trying to re-define patriotism to fit a particular political party, or a particular agenda. This is often accompanied by hatred of those who don't share their narrow-minded or bigoted viewpoints. Sometimes this hatred is so intense that they form militia's or other hate groups to express their violent but "free speech".
Surprisingly some of these "hatefuls" are Christian evangelicals. Apparently they see no contradiction between hating those who disagree, and the Bible's command to "love all men" (1Thess. 3:12). Biblically speaking, however, all forms of hatred of men, is contradictory of Christ, and is disobedience to God. Political hatred is no exception. When you hate others, whoever they are, you are showing rebellion against God, and rebellion against His constituted authorities. "Honor the king" (1Pet. 2:17), and "Pray for the king" (1Tim. 2:1-2), leaves no room for disrespecting any president, showing hatred and animosity, and stirring up treason and rebellion. | Does This Cross Disturb You?
It should disturb you very much. It is what happens when nationalism overtakes the gospel. Well meaning people worshiping a flag and the country for which it stands rather than The Lord Jesus Christ. America has nothing to do with the Cross of Christ. Putting it above the cross tarnishes the gospel, confuses the message of redemption, and tarnishes the witness of countless Christians who are mislead to think that their country is God's country. America is a lost and pagan nation, as are all nations of this world. The only holy nation is God's nation...the church (1Pet. 2:9).

Jesus For President!
This article was published a couple of months ago on the "Liming View" Blog site, and received the most hits they ever had. It seems that Jesus is being dragged religiously into the political arena, but does He belong there? The Tea people and the GOP people, think that Christ belongs in their camp, and that Bible thumping is to be associated with stump speeches and "the American Way". Unfortunately the whole thing makes a mockery of Jesus Christ, who is neither Republican nor Democrat. In fact, Jesus Christ Himself has strong words for anybody who seeks to politicize the Kingdom of God, which is not of this world. Let's keep Christ out of politics, and concentrate instead on actually living and practicing what He taught. We will be far better off when we do that, then to turn Him into a political football.

There is a widespread invasion into the churches of Jesus Christ. It is the subtle in-creeping of a false gospel...the gospel of creative power faith. Faith that demands healing and wealth from God. When a man expresses the Biblical concepts taught so beautifully in this article, he is usually condemned as a chauvinist, who don't know the first thing about womanhood, or who don't really care about women.
