John Piper Explains Why The Women of Bethlehem Baptist Church Do not Read Scriptures, or Pray in The pulpit of His Church.
John Piper Holds The traditional orthodox view known as complimentarianism, which states that women and men are equal, but created for different but complimentary purposes. According to this view women are unqualified by God to serve in pastoral functions in the church, because the pastors or elders must be men who are "husbands of one wife" (see 1Tim. 3:2; and Titus 1:6). This is the historic Baptist view, and it is antithetical to the modern liberal view so often taken in contemporary Baptist churches, where they choose to ignore Paul's instructions on the Divine order of the sexes. They argue that Paul's ideas, regulating and restricting the office of pastor to men only, does not apply today, because times have changed. The question however is; are the New Testament restrictions excluding women from the office and work of pastor mere social issues which were only relevant to the period of the early church. Exegesis of the Biblical material however, clearly shows that the basis for these prohibitions of women from the office of pastor, is based in creation (1Tim.2:11-14), and on the Old testament pattern of an all male priesthood (1Cor. 14:34 ..."as also saith the law"). Only the pagan cult religions had female priests. All the priests, apostles, and pastors of the Bible were males. All the church elders were male. That explains why Jesus called only 12 Apostles, and why they were all males. (John Piper wrote an excellent book on this important Biblical subject, and it is important to study the Biblical material with an open mind which seeks Gods viewpoint and not man's view). If this doctrine is true then there should never be admittance of females to the office and work of pastor. That would include all forms of pastoral duties and pastoral speech. It is important to listen carefully to what Piper says about the very active and prolific ministry that the women of His church do have. Following the Bible does not remove a woman's ministry for Christ, it simply regulates it according to a plan which God devised and not humans. In salvation itself, and our standing in Christ; women and men are equal (Gal. 3:28). In the offices of the church, women and men are distinct and are not equal, because God designed it that way. For whatever reason that pleases Him, and since He is the head of His body, every church should respect and follow his wishes. The Pastoral office is male only (1Tim. 3:1-7 note male pronouns).

This is the kind of exposé that needs to be done on this new brand of super-evangelist telemarketing preacher guru that the emergent church/ prosperity gospel has produced. Joel Osteen is one of many of the false prophets and latter day wolves of our time. The problem with him, is that he doesn't have enough doctrine to fill a thimble. He lacks the doctrine to be a heretic, but a heretic is what he is none the less. He certainly should never call himself a pastor, and his civic center seminars should never be called a church. Thanks Todd for another good job of waking us up and opening our eyes. Keep up the good work.
